Police Commissioner Wards 5 & 6

My name is James P (Jim) Gray.  I am asking for your vote to represent you as the Wards 5 and 6 Police Commissioner.

.  I currently serve Rochester as your State Senator.  In my role as your Senator I serve on many committees that provide oversight; they include the State Fiscal Committee, Health and Human Services Oversight Committee, the University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees, and the Skyhaven Airport Advisory Committee.  I also serve as the Chair of the Senate Finance Committee and the Chair of the Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee.  Combining these functions with my many years on the Rochester City Council and my position as the Director of Engineering for the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington DC, I am well equipped to oversee to the Rochester Police Department.

While serving as the City Councilor for Ward 6 the Council analyzed and negotiated the required changes to the Police Department budget.  Also as the leader of the Ward 6 Rochester United Neighborhood (RUN) meetings I worked closely with the Police Department to resolve citizen issues including drug sales, feral animals, vagrant persons, and other issues the residents were experiencing.  During these meetings we also reviewed the crime statistics and how initiatives such as community policing use these statistics to keep the citizens of Rochester safe.

You should know that the last two Police Commissioners representing Wards 5 and 6 have gone south for the winter.  They attended meeting via a video link.  I feel I was cheated out of the representation I was due.  The final factor in my decision to seek the office of Police Commissioner is when one of those individuals decided to seek the office again.

Every office I have held, both for the City and the State, I have been there and did my homework to be informed on the issues. I have put your benefit first.  I will do the same as your Police Commissioner.  Together we can ensure the Rochester Police Department is respected, well equipped, well trained and well managed!
